ETFO Celebrates World Teachers’ Day

Today, on World Teachers’ Day, the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) joins people around the globe in recognizing and celebrating teachers for their outstanding commitment to the development, success, and well-being of students.

“World Teachers’ Day provides a reminder that teachers play an instrumental role in a child’s growth and development. By engaging students and providing them with an equitable, high-quality education, they make a difference every day,” says ETFO President Karen Brown. “Their efforts to create conditions for success in the classroom should be acknowledged and celebrated today and every day.”

ETFO educators work to create inclusive learning environments for all students because they care deeply about their success and well-being. Adds Brown, “While we work to meet student needs, we continue to push to strengthen the Ontario public education system. This includes calling for action on the recruitment, hiring, and retention of Black teachers and others from historically marginalized groups; this is critical to helping students succeed.”

World Teachers’ Day, held annually on October 5, commemorates the
anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. World Teachers’ Day is co-convened in partnership with UNICEF, the International Labour Organization, and Education International.

ETFO represents approximately 83,000 members, including public elementary teachers, occasional teachers, designated early childhood educators, education support personnel, and professional support personnel. Visit BuildingBetterSchools.ca.
